The Lunch and Learn Series features a number of HMIS-related trainings conducted by MCAH that cover an array of topics. New sessions are typically held monthly, and registration is sent out via our mailing lists.

Using the HMIS Data Quality Tool in the Michigan HMIS Data Warehouse
The HMIS Data Quality Tool, now available in the Michigan HMIS Data Warehouse, is the merging of two very important community resources (HUD’s CSV Data Quality Tool and the 0252 Data Completeness Report) into one detailed and secure data quality report.By-Name List Report
The Basic By-Name List Report is now available in BusinessObjects. This report can be used alongside the Balance of State Prioritization Policy to run a local By-Name List/Prioritization Meeting.Housing Move-In Date: How to Identify Errors and Input Data Correctly
During this session, we reviewed all things Housing Move-In Date. We started by reviewing a canned report (CoC APR) and a BusinessObjects report (Housing Move-In Data Quality Report) that can assist in identifying HMID errors. We then demonstrated how to properly enter an HMID and make corrections to errors you may find in the above reports.Using the HMIS for Case Management
Did you know that when Community Services was conceived over 20 years ago, it was a case management software? Many current HMIS users are unaware that Community Services contains a robust suite of case management functionality to help clients meet their goals, all fully integrated into the HMIS. This session was an exploration of the HIPAA-compliant case management tools available to all community partners at no extra cost.
Training and Recertification on the HMIS Learning Center
All HMIS users are required to complete a suite of training courses on the HMIS Learning Center in order to receive a license to use the system, and they are also required to recertify several of these courses on an annual basis. This session provided guidance on how to navigate the site and complete the training suite, while avoiding some of the more common missteps.
Using Stella P to Understand Your CoC’s Data
Stella P is a powerful visualization tool helping CoCs understand their performance in preventing and ending homelessness. With a good understanding of how Stella P works, communities can use it to make strategic planning decisions on resources and service delivery methods which can improve overall outcomes for persons experiencing homelessness where they are.
Do’s and Don’ts of Visibility and Data Sharing
This session covered key topics related to client and provider page visibility setup in the HMIS. It addressed common missteps and how to make sure that your data is being shared, or not shared, properly.
ESG Street Outreach Workflow
This session covered multiple aspects of the ESG Street Outreach HMIS workflow including how it differs from other program workflows, component definitions, and a live walkthrough of the data entry workflow.
Preparing for Federal Reporting Season
This session reviewed some of the basic data quality reports and supplemental guides that can be used in preparation for the federal reporting season. System Admins, Agency Admins, and end users will all benefit from information in this session.
New Agency HMIS Onboarding
Bringing a new agency onboard can be a confusing process, especially for Local System Administrators or agencies who have never been part of an HMIS. This session broke down the process of bringing a new agency onto the system, to help make it easier to understand.

SSVF and HMIS
This session is targeted towards Local System Administrators and their role with SSVF programs in the HMIS. We reviewed SSVF resources available on the HMIS Learning Center and answered FAQs we receive through the help desk.
Data Entry Tips and Tricks
This session was open to all HMIS end users. During this session, MCAH highlighted important considerations for completing accurate and reliable data entry into the HMIS.
Frontline Technical Support for Your HMIS Users
This session was open to Agency Administrators and Local System Administrators. During this session, MCAH provided helpful resources and strategies for addressing technical questions that come from end users in your agency or community.
Introduction to the HMIS Data Standards
This session was open to all HMIS end users. During the session, MCAH provided an overview of the HMIS Data Standards and detailed their function in the HMIS. We demonstrated how to read through the Data Standards Manual and explain the importance of reviewing and interpreting the standards locally.
Overview of Income and Non-Cash Benefits
During this session, we explored the features of Income and Non-Cash Benefits in Community Services and highlighted strategies to improve data entry and data quality. This session was be open to all active HMIS users.
HMIS 2021: A Year in Review!
This session provided a summary of updates, trainings, and resources provided by MCAH during 2021. The session was open to all users. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in some HMIS trivia!
