Reporting Requirements

This session will cover the requirements of many of the common reports that we submit using the HMIS every year. We will discuss the updated HUD submission calendar, state and federal requirements, and overall participation in the PIT and HIC, LSA, APR, and CAPER.
ESG Roundtable

Presented by Christina Soulard and Lisa Worth
With so many new funding opportunities being offered as part of the CARES Act and other ESG resources, there will be a lot of new information for communities to process. This session is a roundtable with representatives from ESG state funders and is designed to help communities get answers to some key questions around the availability of new resources that will be accessible in your communities.
Data Quality Plan and Site Review

Site review documents are designed to provide a framework for reviewing the HMIS implementation at each level by providing an overview of the activities duties, and tasks that are required as part of the statewide HMIS implementation. This session will introduce the site review template and provide instructions on how to complete the review. It will also introduce the Data Quality Plan template which will help you address any problem areas and uncover and correct the errors.
HUD and Federal Partners Updates

With new projects beginning with CARES Act funding, and continued evolution of Coordinated Entry, it is now as important as ever to keep on top of program requirements. In this session, Candice Wiseman-Hacker from WellSky will cover the latest changes from HUD and the Federal Partners, helping communities be aware of what to expect in the coming few months.
Provider Page Setup

HMIS project page setup is one of the most critical steps in achieving accurate data collecting and reporting. Proper project setup ensures that the system will pull accurate, reliable reports. Join us as we review setup including the “Provider Profile” tab, “Standards Information” tab (including Project Type, CoC code, Bed and Unit Inventories, and Federal Partner Funding Sources), “Display Settings” tab, and the “Services” tab.
Coordinated Entry Best Practices in Urban Communities

This session will cover some best practices currently in use in urban communities in Michigan and North Carolina regarding Coordinated Entry. Understanding Privacy in the HMIS

As one of the most important activities we engage in, privacy is critical for ensuring clients are protected, while at the same time information can be shared appropriately to coordinate services. This session will take a look at the “big picture” of our privacy model governing the HMIS. We will look at the basic principles underpinning all we do with privacy, and how you can evaluate potential situations from a responsible privacy lens.
Using Technology in Your Street Outreach Fieldwork

Participants will learn how to use technology to increase the impact in efforts to end homelessness through street outreach. Tips include completing documents electronically, verification of homelessness, and mapping.
Using System Performance Measures and Stella P to Understand Performance in Your Community

More and more communities are now asking how they can begin using data to understand how well they are doing with preventing and ending homelessness. Two of the key tools available right now to understand outcomes are the System Performance Measures and Stella P/the Longitudinal Systems Analysis. This session will take an in-depth look at both of these tools and how your community can incorporate them in your evaluation work. This session will also cover how you can use Stella P to do evaluation locally around racial equity.
MDHHS PATH and Emergency Shelter Program Data Updates

Please join us for this interactive session that will begin with guidance on key data elements for PATH programs. The session will then transition into data elements for Emergency Shelter Programs. The session will address using data to inform ESP programmatic decisions. Updates will be provided as well as an opportunity for discussing impacts demonstrated as a result of implemented policy changes.
This is a Michigan-specific session.
Future of Homeless Data

Technology and innovation are radically changing the landscape of homeless services. HMIS Project Director Gerry Leslie will take a look at how these changes will affect data and how we will use it in the years ahead. This session will look at the big picture of how data framework is evolving and the need for oversight, governance, and privacy as communities shift the paradigms for data collection. This session will offer a number of key takeaways that communities can implement to prepare them for the future.

Get the answer to these questions, and more, in this presentation that will help you understand data flow, tree structure, permission levels, and system limitations. Learn how to set up your provider pages and visibility groups to properly share your data with others.

CQI: A Recipe for Success in Your Community

A great recipe typically doesn’t start that way; only through several trial and error attempts does it begin to establish itself as a success. Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) should apply a similar approach. In this session, learn how to engage your CoC in conversations and activities centered around CQI, and how, while doing so, your data quality, System Performance Measures, and outcomes can improve.
Using Criteria & Benchmark Tools to Measure System Performance: Creating a Useful Community By-Name List

The purpose of this session is to examine the VA Master List and Benchmark Generation Tool as an example of a community by-name list to understand what data is being tracked and why, and to apply these concepts to drive system performance and local practices.
